Sussex Trail Runners - Hastings to Rye (Saxon & 1066 Route)

Join Sussex Trail Runners for a spectacular 22 km (13.7 miles) point-to-point trail run from Hastings to Rye, following the historic Saxon Shore Way and 1066 Country Walk. With 550 meters (1,800 feet) of elevation gain, this route offers a mix of coastal cliffs, ancient woodland, open marshland, and centuries of history underfoot.
Starting in Hastings Old Town, we’ll climb quickly onto the clifftops of the Saxon Shore Way, with dramatic views over the English Channel. The route winds through wooded trails and open fields, eventually joining the 1066 Country Walk, which leads us through the historic hilltop town of Winchelsea, rich with medieval charm.
From there, we descend onto the flatlands of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, passing the imposing ruins of Camber Castle, once part of Henry VIII’s coastal defences. The final stretch into Rye takes us through the wetlands and winding tracks of the Rother Estuary, finishing in one of Sussex’s most picturesque and historic towns. Expect varied terrain, from chalky climbs to marshland tracks, and a trail steeped in history and natural beauty.

Sussex Trail Runners – Cuckmere Pilgrims Path Adventure

Join Sussex Trail Runners for a scenic and sociable 12-mile (19 km) circular trail run through the beautiful Cuckmere Valley, following the historic Cuckmere Pilgrims Path. With 1,214 feet (370 meters) of elevation gain, this downland route offers a rich blend of natural beauty, heritage landmarks, and flowing trails.
This is not a race, but a fun and relaxed adventure designed to connect like-minded trail runners and help you discover new routes. Along the way, we’ll pass seven ancient churches, including the smallest church in Sussex, and the iconic Long Man of Wilmington, a mysterious chalk hill figure carved into the Downs.
The route features a mix of rolling hills, open fields, wooded tracks, and panoramic views, showcasing some of the finest scenery the South Downs has to offer.
